Located deep in the beautiful Goyt Valley and on the edge of the Peak District, south of Manchester you will find the peaceful Roman Lakes Leisure Park. It has been around for nearly 100 years and was once supplied by the long gone Samuel Oldknow’s Mellor Mill and is now a venue for a variety of different recreational and sporting activities, including carp fishing and coarse fishing. It is a great spot to park, explore do some carp fishing and even explore the area on foot or by mountain bike.
The park has the Takeaway Cafe with a range of hot and cold beverages and snacks, tearooms with drinks, snacks and meals. There is no entrance fee, there are toilets at the side of the main building, a play area for the children, a picnic area, facilities for disabled and a range of events that take place during the year.
The waters are day ticket only and a permit is required. The waters are well stocked with carp, pike, bream, perch, roach and tench. The main lake has carp over 30 pounds and pike over 20 pounds. The large lake has several wooded islands and the backwaters have a peaceful wooded valley setting.
On top of carp fishing you can enjoy bird watching, canoeing, walking the history trail, walking the nature trail and mountain biking.
